| Daniel Bard in his last outing in AAA struck out the side in 9 pitches. THAT IS AWESOME. In 9 innings of work he has only allowed 1 run while striking out 16 (and only 3 walks)!!! I can't wait to see him in the majors... the Sox have so much pitching in the minors that it is sick. | |

| Good thing they didn't trade Bard. Good insurance in case Paps comes down with an injury OR some other key player goes down resulting in the Sox being able to trade Bard for a valuable replacement.
Nick Hagadone will soon be returning to the mound. Hope he comes back even better!

| Bowden last night (May 17th): 8 scoreless innings with 7 K's and allowing just 3 hits. Bring him and Clay up already!!! ERA now 0.86 | |

| Greenville's Pitcher Casey Kelly (5-1; 1.28 ERA) is looking like another blue chip prospect even though he's still in Single A ball. | |

| Buchholz yesterday:
9 IP, 1 H 0 ER 0 BB, 7 K, 94 pitches
He had a perfect game going into the 9th I believe...
He needs to be brought up at this point. He's too old to rot away in the minors. Keeping Bowden in AAA is okay for now since he is younger.
Deal Penny and put Buchholz in for him.

| Report: Bates gets the call
According to WEEI.com, the Red Sox will promote first baseman Aaron Bates to the big league club for tonight's game against Oakland, taking the spot of Jeff Bailey, who is headed for the 15-day disabled list with a high ankle sprain. Bates will apparently be in the starting lineup and bat ninth. Presently the twentieth-ranked prospect in the Sox system, Bates was just recently promoted to Triple-A Pawtucket from Double-A Portland after putting up a .340/.405/.505 line for the Sea Dogs in 2009. In 24 games for the PawSox, the 25-year-old Bates hit just .182 while making adjustments to Triple-A pitching. Bates was drafted in the third round of the 2006 draft out of North Carolina State. To clear a spot for Bates on the 40-man roster, Boston will transfer Jed Lowrie to the 60-day disabled list, according to Amalie Benjamin. As Lowrie has already spent more than sixty days on the disabled list, the move is simply a procedural

| He looked nervous yesterday with a pop up and a strikeout and something else (I shut the game off...). ANyway he went 0-3 in his debut. He looks to have some "pop" so we'll see how he fares... | |

| Just got back from the PawSox game. Bowden pitched and didn't look good at all. There was one point where he threw about 10 balls in a row. He gave up 6 runs in 3 innings and walked 3. Just didn't have it tonight. His fastball topped off at 93. He definitely doesn't have a plus fastball. His change looks good though and his K's came from that pitch.
Joey Gathwright (spelling ?) played for the Orioles AAA team. Man he is fast...
The game was unbelievably slow. After 3 hours they were only in the 7th inning... I left early...
