I have officially given up on Ortiz. His numbers stink and he has no confidence and tenacity at the plate. The Brad Penny project can now be scrapped. Bring up the kids and send the unluck Penny to the farm.

I say send Ortiz to AAA (to get his timing down and to stop embarrassing himself) and send up Lars Anderson to see what he can do...

Boston sweeps the Yanks again. Lots of Ks for Joba but no win. Bay continues to shine. 7HRs!!

Joba the Hut is a punk who didn't fall far from his mothers tree. Intentionally hitting Bay between the numbers... PUNK! I predict a massive blowout and brawl between these two teams the next time they meet...

Sox are 5 for 5 vs. the Yanks... very sweet...

Bowden went nuts last night in Pawtucket. 6.2 innings of no hit ball. Then gave up a double and left the game. With two outs in the 8th Bard came in and closed the game with 4 strikeouts. Yeah, that would be every out... He now has 25 strikeouts in 14 innings with an ERA of 1.29. Bowdens ERA is at 1.01. Sick pitching... Kudos to Theo...

Who would have thought Wakefield would be the Sox ace right now. Bay continues to shine. A record setting 12 run inning offensive outburst before recording an out the other night against the Tribe. And finally the Sox beat the Rays. cheers

Boston Red Sox Ramblings - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Bard is a Red Sock   Boston Red Sox Ramblings - Page 2 EmptyMon May 11, 2009 7:09 pm

"According to Joe McDonald of the Providence Journal, the Red Sox are set to purchase the contract of reliever Daniel Bard from Pawtucket this evening in order to call him up to the big league club. Bard is expected to be at Fenway Park when Boston faces off against Tampa Bay this evening. Bard, the #3 prospect in the system according to SoxProspects.com, has 6 saves, a 1.13 ERA, 29 strikeouts, and just 5 walks in 16 innings with the PawSox this season."

Not sure if this happened already. But we're hearing that Lopez has been DFA (Designated for assignment) to make room for Daniel Bard.

SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A solid bullpen has been made nearly indestructable. Excellent move (about time!) Theo! cheers

Wait a minute... here is a newer news article from yesterday:

"The Boston Herald is reporting that the Red Sox have designated relief pitcher Javier Lopez for assignment, making room on the 25-man and 40-man rosters for Pawtucket closer Daniel Bard's promotion to Boston. Lopez has had a difficult start to 2009, posting an 0-2 record with a 9.26 ERA in 14 appearances out of the Boston bullpen. He struck out 5 and walked 9 in 11.2 innings, allowing a .392 batting average to opposing hitters. Originally a fourth-round draft pick by Arizona in 1998, Lopez was acquired by the Red Sox in June, 2006 from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for David Riske. During his seven major league seasons with Colorado, Arizona and Boston, Lopez owns an 11-7 record with a 4.62 ERA in 343 appearances spanning 243.2 innings. "

Daniel Bard last night made his MLB debut. 2 innings pitched, 1 hit and 1 strikeout, no runs given up. Sweet. He was throwing it at 98 mph.

Another bad performance for Lester. Brings Buchholz and Bowden up. The Red Sox have one of the poorest team ERA in the league. Come on! Mad Ortiz was benched...good. Ellsbury is starting to contribute more...3 hits and hitting over .300!

Bard in last nights loss: 1.1 IP, 2 hits, 0 ER. Another solid performance and another performance I haven't seen. Both games started at 10pm here on the east coast. Way too late for me!

Sox lose to Seattle again. Mad

Trade rumors? Brad Penny for Milwaukee's J.J. Hardy straight up. Deal. Hardy is a way better fielder than Lugo and although Julio's batting average is better than Lugo, look at Hardy RBI. Mike, you want Penny on your pitching staff?

hmm this is an interesting proposition, but the Brewers pitching staff has turned it around since their awful start. I will say no for now. They wouldn't have a real competent replacement for him. Council is a great off the bench player but I don't know about starting him every day and some of their prospects don't seem to be ready yet.

Hardy has a good glove and although he is streaky he has a good bat as well.

I do think the Brewers are 1 starter away from being a real contender, hopefully they will make a trade later in the year, I'd rather see them trade prospects if possible (ie matt leporta to the indians for CC)

Trade Rumor by Buster Olney:

"The Red Sox might have to do something to replace David Ortiz at DH if he doesn't show signs of life soon. Olney speculates on the idea of Boston trading starting pitching "for some talented young hitter - like Matt LaPorta of the Indians." That would stink for LaPorta, getting traded twice within a year."

I'd trade Nick Hagadone or Brad Penny or Bowden for LaPorta, once a blue chip prospect in the Milwaukee organization before being traded to Cleveland. Ortiz is done and no amount of rest is going to bring him back to MVP level form.

There was also a trade rumor abot the Sox getting Victor Martinez. I would be totally for that depending on who we would need to give up. I bet we would have to give up the farm...

One of four things with a potential of them being mixed together:

1.) He's coming off of steroids
2.) Massive Mental Problem
3.) He's getting old and declining
4.) Just a plain ol' slump

My take: Option #4 causing #2 with a bit of #3 being thrown in.

He did have a godd night last night: A double and a homerun which is encouraging. But then again he may have been lucky... we'll see if he really snaps out of it.

Notice G.K. didn't give Bard's stats. Varitex gets 2 HRs and Bay launches another round tripper. Wins against the Jays are vital. WATCH OUT FOR THE MIGHTY YANKEES ... THEY'RE ON FIRE!!

Bard gave up 1 run in .2IP. Not a problem. Still has an ERA under 3.

How many 1-2-3 innings has he had.? Too many base runners get on. Yes, his ERA is still low but he isn't dominating like he did in the minors. Not a problem but a concern. Bard needs to be lights out then I'll be impressed.

Bay is unreal. Another HR last night. The MVP of the AL right now. Longoria has better stats but his team isn't doing that great... Sign Bay NOW to an extension.

Bard stats:

2 IP 1 H 1 BB 0 ER
1.1 IP 2 H 0 BB 0 ER
.2 IP 3 H 0 BB 1 ER

He's fine right now. He's young... give him time to be dominant...
